| Product Features | This rustic painted elm wood stool originates from northern China and likely dates to the early-to-mid 20th century. It was constructed using traditional mortise and tenon joinery with splayed legs and a stretcher for added support, design features that helped it remain stable on uneven earthen or stone floors. Elm was a preferred hardwood in Chinese furniture-making due to its durability, resistance to splitting, and attractive grain. The stool's surface shows layered remnants of black and white paint, heavily worn and chipped from years of use and repainting—a common practice in rural households where furniture was reused across generations.
